CONSIDER THE FIREFLY
by Julie Lavender

I love watching the fireflies this time of year! It’s fun to watch their twinkling lights at dusk.

Fireflies, sometimes called ‘lightning bugs,’ are found on every continent except Antarctica. They like warm, humid places and only come out in the summertime.

God gave fireflies this unique way to communicate. Fireflies have special chemicals in their abdomens that let's their rear ends light up and shine as bright as a flashlight! (It's creations like this that make me wonder if God chuckled when he spoke that masterpiece into existence! Was he thinking, "Hey - I'll make this one's fanny light up!")

The glowing, blinking light helps the male and female fireflies find each other. They also use the glow to defend their territory and scare away predators. The blinking lights are the fireflies’ way of ‘talking.’

God's creations are so fascinating! Us humans will gaze into the heavens and admire fireworks this week, but God, long long ago, made his own little insect-fireworks for us to enjoy!

Thank you, God! You're amazing!

Happy Independence Day to all, and may the fireworks remind you to "let you light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

What about you? Have you ever chased fireflights? How do you "let your light shine before others?"
